Emmanuel Adebayor’s proposed transfer from Arsenal to Manchester City has reportedly hit a snag over loyalty payments the Togolese striker believes he should receive from the Gunners.
The two clubs are believed to have agreed terms on a move for the African in a deal worth around £22 million.
A report in the Daily Mirror suggests that ‘Ade’ will not budge unless he receives a £2m loyalty bonus as he did not hand in a transfer request.
The 26-year-old is rumoured to be set to pick up £170,000-a-week at Eastlands as City continue to strengthen their front line ahead of the 2009-10 Premier League season.
They have already secured the services of Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz, Argentinean forward Carlos Tevez, who turned his back on Manchester United to join the Citizens, as well as former Aston Villa club captain, midfielder Gareth Barry.
The arrival of Adebayor would take City manager Mark Hughes’ striker count up to nine, with Robinho, Craig Bellamy, Felipe Caicedo, Benjani, Ched Evans, Valeri Bojinov, Santa Cruz and Tevez already at the club.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are believed to be attempting to engineer a move for Adebayor, trying to snatch him from under the nose of Hughes.
